Catching Jordan

Catching Jordan
Catching Jordan

Kindle Edition, 288 pages

“One thing I learned a long time ago is that even if you think you're meant to be with someone, that doesn't necessarily mean you get to be with them.”
This book was pretty amazing! I loved the characters in the book except for a few. I am a huge football fanatic, so of course I was fully engrossed. And also I like the fact that UT was mentioned a lot in the book, since I am only an hour away from Knoxville ( not a UT fan though ;) ).
Jordan is a senior in high school and the quarter back for Hundred Oaks High. Her dream is to play for Alabama and she has this countdown until she has a tour of the campus. She is super excited but worries about her position possibly being taken away by a new player, Tyler Green. Her best friend is Sam Henry aka Henry, they have been friends for ten years and they do everything together, he even spends the night more than he does his own house. But drama ignites when she starts dating Ty. I hated whenever she started dating Ty, he seems a little controlling and short tempered.
Her dad annoyed me throughout the book though. He is a NFL player and her brother plays at UT, but yet the father will not come and see her games nor talk about football with her. Later on in the book though he finally wises up and watches a few games and helps her with some college choices that turn out to be the best.
I love the relationship and chemistry that Jordan and Henry share. I just hated when they stopped talking and he kept hooking up with all these girls. But in the end he also wised up and they made up.
I was hooked from the beginning to the end, I wish it finished a little better though. But overall, it was a great read, with a touch of romance.

“But what happens when you don't find that right person? Do you just spend the rest of your life in a relationship where the conversation isn't great, everything isn't perfect, but it is nice and sweet?”

CAN SOMEONE TURN ON THE AC?? Umm holy cow! This book is just WOW where to even begin?! I've heard so much about this book lately on goodreads and amazon that I decided, hey why not see what all the hypes about. This book is insane and so good though. I have never read a book like this before that is so graphic and intense, and yet it's so captivating. Here is a little summary:

The book opens talking about Ana filling in for her friend Kate (whom is sick) that has an interview at Grey Enterprises in Seattle. There she meets Mr. CEO Christian Grey. She is so stunned by how gorgeous he is and is blushing constantly. Ana figures she will never see him again, but sure enough  one night she is at work at Clayton's Hardware store in Portland and he is in there, unexpected! (You learn about some of his stalkerish ways later on). From then on she is making plans with him and finding out more about this mysterious Mr. Grey who does not share a lot of detail about his life except that it was hard in the beginning. He keeps dropping hints to Ana that he is no good for her and she is kept guessing until she finds out about his *contract* and the lifestyle he has chosen. She should run off screaming but instead she stays, mainly curious to the whole situation. They start developing a relationship but is it just purely sex or is there something more? Ana's emotions are like a roller coaster lately and is so confused about what to do, she loves him but does he?  This book ends leaving you wondering does she stay or does she go? I love the characters and the chemistry between the two. Ana is hoping for something more, and Mr. Grey you just do not know. I love how the writer describes Christian, he sounds yummy, he is intense, and so mysterious. Ana on the other hand is a normal, average girl who just graduated college.

This has two more books that follow that I can not wait to read.

I do recommend this book, but like I said it does have adult content, quite a bit actually! It is very addicting, and you will be up reading into the wee hours of the morning ;)

As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents... she soon realises that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life."

My thoughts:
So I saw this book the other day on Goodreads, and I have to get my hands on this as soon as it comes out. It sounds so interesting and I am in need of a Chick Lit book. Hopefully this will be good!

So what are you waiting on?

Catching Fire

Catching Fire
Suzanne Collins
391 Pages
Published September 1st 2009 by Scholastic Press

Rated it: 4 Stars

Where to even begin? There is so much I want to discuss about this book, but yet I do not want to spoil the book for those who have not read it. Let's just that I LOVE this series, but this one took awhile to build up and started out kind of slow. This book has so many twists and turns in it, and that freaking love triangle, ugh! I hate love triangles with a passion. But yet, I can see why. Peeta and Gale are impossibly hard to choose! In this book you learn a lot more about Gale who is now working in the mines in District 12. Katniss still goes hunting with him on Sundays but that is the only day she sees him. She helps keeps Gale's family fed by bringing them food back when she hunts. But things start changing in District 12 and the Peacekeepers are keeping an eye out on them and everyone. You also learn some more about District 13, which I was hoping would be discussed in this book. I wanted to know why it was destroyed. This year for the games, Peeta and Katniss are once again chosen to go back into the arena along with others who have won previously. This is when I get angry, I'm thinking WHY?! They possibly can not get out this round can they?? The President is all about destroying Katniss, due to all the uprisings in the districts, and of course the rebellion mockingjay symbol. The end is such a cliffhanger, but good thing I have the next book ready. On to Mockingjay! Catching Fire has betrayal, twists, and has you on the edge.

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games
Susanne Collins
374 pages
Published October 1st 2008 by Scholastic, Inc

Rated it: 5 stars

This book was amazing- I loved it! I was kind of skeptical about it at first, but as it went on I could not put it down and was so drawn into the book. I really started getting into the book in part two when the fighting started happening. Susanne Collins does a terrific job at keeping the reader interested.
The Hunger Games is about a girl named Katniss who lives with her mother and her sister Prim. Her father died in a coal mine explosion and Katniss is to help hunt for food and helps take care of her younger sister. Her close friend Gale also helps her with the food and they split what they kill. They are very close friends but she tells in the story that she will never marry or have children due to the circumstances. Every year the Capitol has all twelve districts take part in the Hunger Games, and if you win you are pretty much set in life. They choose two people from each, guy and girl ages ranging from 12-18. When Prim's name appears in the drawing Katniss takes her place. Then it starts getting real good. It talks about the prep before the games and how she learns more about Peeta who is also from District 12. Peeta and Katniss are to act in love to cause more drama. But is it an act?

Let the games begin!

I highly recommend reading this book, if you have not already.

Only Us: A Fool's Gold Holiday (Fool's Gold, #6.5)

Goodreads Description:

Pet groomer Carina Fiore wants nothing more than to confess her feelings to the man she loves. She's drawn to veterinarian Cameron McKenzie's good looks, caring nature and especially his devotion to his young daughter. But he's also her boss and a good friend. Putting her heart on the line could cost Rina both her job and their friendship forever.
Since his divorce, Cameron hasn't been willing to trust his heart—or his daughter—with anyone else. For months he's pushed away all thoughts of taking Rina in his arms and kissing her, unwilling to risk their friendship for a single night of pleasure. But when a kiss under the mistletoe unlocks the simmering passion between them, Rina and Cameron may just find love for the holidays after all...

My Review

Only Us is a good fast read, I was not aware that it is only 51 pages. I thought it was longer, to me it just jumped right in what was happening and then it was over. I was left wanting to know more. I am a big fan of Susan Mallery's books and I was hoping for something "better".

Only Us is about a vet named Cameron who is a single dad to his eight year old daughter, who fears falling in love, due to the fact that his wife left him and his daughter. Rina helps with the adoption agency for animals and also helps around the house of Cameron, and takes care of his daughter. She decides one day to just come out and say how much she adores him but he just says he wants to remain friends. He soon realizes that he indeed does love Rina. Overall it is a good book, just wanted more details.

Beauty Queens

Libba Bray
Published May 24th 2011 by Scholastic Press
396 Pages

Rating: 5 stars

Goodreads Description:

The fifty contestants in the Miss Teen Dream pageant thought this was going to be a fun trip to the beach, where they could parade in their state-appropriate costumes and compete in front of the cameras. But sadly, their airplane had another idea, crashing on a desert island and leaving the survivors stranded with little food, little water, and practically no eyeliner.

What's a beauty queen to do? Continue to practice for the talent portion of the program - or wrestle snakes to the ground? Get a perfect tan - or learn to run wild? And what should happen when the sexy pirates show up?

Welcome to the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Your tour guide? None other than Libba Bray, the hilarious, sensational, Printz Award-winning author of A Great and Terrible Beauty and Going Bovine. The result is a novel that will make you laugh, make you think, and make you never see beauty the same way again.

This book was hilarious, and at the end of most of the pages it has end notes and *commerical* breaks (loved them). Beauty Queens has a mixture of reality TV, politics, and advertising.
I loved this book. Beauty queens crashing on an island just waiting to be rescued. The first couple of days when they crash they think someone is going to be out looking for them- wrong! They are still practicing for the pageant instead of thinking of survival. You get to know each of the characters in each chapters and their story on Miss Teen Dream. What I like about this book is that Bray keeps the characters "real".
If you are look for a young adult book that has plenty of humor, I highly recommend Beauty Queens!

The Sleepwalkers

The Sleepwalkers

J. Gabriel Gates

Rated it: 4 Stars

360 pages

Published October 3rd, 2011

Goodreads Decription:

A chilling and masterfully crafted teen horror novel guaranteed to keep the pages turning, the mind reeling, and the lamp on any reader's bedside table on long after midnight.

Privileged and popular Caleb Mason is celebrating his high school graduation when he receives a mysterious, disturbing letter from his long-lost childhood playmate, Christine. Caleb and his jokester friend Bean decide to travel to his tiny hometown of Hudsonville, Florida, to find her. Upon arrival, they discover the town has taken a horrifying turn for the worse. Caleb's childhood home is abandoned and his father has disappeared. Children are going missing. The old insane asylum has reopened, and Christine is locked inside. Her mother, a witch, is consumed with madness, and Christine's long-dead twin sister whispers clues to Caleb through the static of an a.m. radio. The terrifying prophesies of the spirits are coming to pass. Sixteen clocks are ticking; sixty-six murdered souls will bring about the end of the world. As Caleb peels back layer after layer of mystery, he uncovers a truth more horrible than anything he had imagined, a truth that could only be uttered by the lips of the dead.

Let me just start by saying this book was creepy. I would read this late at night and I would be looking around whenever "something would happen", just expecting something to pop out. It was so good that I could not put down, I wanted to see what was going to happen next.

The writer writes in such detail that you just get all these images in your head, which makes it seem a little more scary. After reading this book, I looked up the author to see if he had anymore books and he only has two more. I take it that he is just starting out.

The main character Caleb just graduated high school and is planning on going to Africa to write about AIDS and pursue a career in journalism. While having a party at his house with close friends, he receives a letter from an old friend asking for help. He then decides to tell everyone he is now going to Florida with his close friend "Bean".

When he ends up in Florida, they try to find Caleb's dad, which you find out, has disappeared. The town is strange and no one seems to care that people are disappearing. This part reminded me of that crazy movie "Wrong Turn".

They end up visiting an old mental hospital which is now a Dream Center, where his friend Christine that needed help is there. From then on his life completely changes. Strange things start happening, and the ending is one of those books that you finish reading and you say "Wow, I did not see this coming!" I would recommend this book. It has the right amount of "horror" and the writing just has you on the edge of your seat.

Dark Lover Black Dagger Brotherhood # 1

Dark Lover

J.R. Ward

Rated it: 4 Stars

393 pages

Published September 6th 2005

Goodreads Description:

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams

So I decided to start this vampire series and wow, just wow. I could not put this book down. It is such a great book. I loved the main characters Wrath and Beth (so hot). You are introduced to all the Brotherhood and other characters and learn their story, but Beth and Wrath you can not help but love. I would consider this a mature read, there are scenes in the book that are pretty erotic.

Just a quick summary of the book the Black Dagger Brotherhood, is a group of warrior brothers who fight the "Lessers" who are trying to destroy the vampire population. At the opening Darius asks Wrath to watch over and protect Beth, who is half-breed but is kind of reluctant. Darius ends up dying and Wrath decides then to help out Beth and also get back at the death of Darius.  Later on we learn that Wrath has been watching her and finally makes his appearance and tells her about her father and the transition that will soon happen. You learn a lot about their relationship and about the "Lessers" trying to start war on each other.

I already ordered the second book on my kindle and cannot wait to read it. I love the way the writer writes, there are twists and turns in the book that you will not want to stop turning the page.

Matched (Matched, #1)
  • 366 pages
  • Young Adult, Dystopia
  • Published November 30, 2010

Goodreads description:
Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

My Review:
I had heard such great things from this book and I had to get my hands on it and read it. I am a tad bit late considering its now 2012, but I had to read this. In my opinion it was an okay read, but I really do not see the "hype" about this book. Towards the end it started getting more interesting, and I probably will end up buying the next one.

The story tells how Cassia is going to be matched on her seventeenth birthday. The Society chooses who is the perfect match for you, and pretty much everything you do. Now I don't want to spoil the book and just come out and say who is her match. But after the matching another guy pops up on her micro card. From then on there is a love "triangle" and she ends up breaking some rules.

If you have an interest in YA Dystopia and love triangles, then this is for you. And like I said earlier in the post, I will continue on with the series, just to see what happens! All in all it was a good read, but it could have been better.
